COLONIZATION OF WHEAT RHIZOSPHERE BYBACILLUS SUBTILIS STRAINS PRODUCING DIFFERENT LEVELS OF CYTOKININS

Abstract

Wheat germs rhizoplane colonization by introduced Bacillus subtilis , strains IB-21 and IB-22, differencing in ability to cytokinin production, and aboriginal bacteria was studied. Large dose of treatment with bacillar preparations (109 CFU/plant) determined high density of introduced bacterial populations in rhizoplane (108-109 CFU/g of roots). Abundance of introduced bacteria in rhizoplane was 106 CFU/g at smaller treatment doses (105-106 CFU/seed or 0.2 kg/t of seeds). Number of aboriginal bacteria in rhizoplane was 108 CFU/g regardless of bacilli strains and method of treatment. Introduction of B. subtilis , strain IB-22 cells into wheat rhizosphere resulted to remarkable changes in cytokinin content in the plants accompanied with growth-promoting effect. In contrast, at treatment by B. subtilis , strain IB-21, cytokinin concentration in plants no differed with control plants and growth-promoting influence was mild.
