The question of the genre and the generic nature of the works of Boehme, admittedly representing specimens of spiritual prose of baroque, is risen. The urgency of raising such a question is due to insufficient study of the heritage this philosopher and mystic as a phenomenon of literature. First, we solve this problem by analyzing the image of the author and suggestive functions of the text. Second, we use a theoretical analysis of the problem of the fourth kind of poetry, raised in the last century by the German theorist of literature V. Rutkowski. Creativity of Boehme resists unequivocal correlating it with the epic, drama, or lyrics. His lyrical philosophy borders on philosophical lyrics. Revelation experienced by the author as its responsibility to the reader generates a text in which the presence of the author reaches imaginative and plastic expressiveness and which at the same time focused on the motivation of the recipient to feel the consciousness of truth and embark on the path of inner birth in God. This “basic setting” subjugating epic, dramatic and lyrical intention, V. Rutkowski considered as a basis for the determination of the fourth literary kind, which the author of this concept defined as “the artistic”. The author of this article believes this definition is too narrow, and proposes to call this kind of literature “the provocative”, bearing in mind that such text requires the effective response of the recipient.
