Abstract

Leaf is a structural and functional unit of the plant organism. Changes in anatomical and morphological leaf structure are the result of its actions to adapt to different environmental factors, which leads to morphological diversity of leaves as a result of random changes in its stepwise development. The article is a study of the adaptation mechanisms of leaves of Betula pubescens Ehrh. on altitudinal gradient of the mountain Bolshoy Shelom (South Urals) at the morphological level in terms of fluctuating asymmetry (FA) and the integration of morphological leaf structure (r2m). Average image of leaves in these groups was constructed by the method of geometric morphometry. The analysis forms the leaf blades on the index leaf (IL) and leaf shape index (SI). Research relations (correlation analysis) between parameters and the FA r2m revealed the presence of statistically insignificant negative relationship between them. In the study of variability of leaf shape of B. pubescens on altitudinal gradient, the aythors identified three types of forms lamina for the three groups of trees. The first group of trees (710 m above sea level. m.) is characterized by near-diamond leaf shape. The third group (1127 m above sea level. M) is characterized by a leaf with broad shape of blade. The second group (941 m above sea level) is marked as a transitional form.
