CONTENT OF HEAVY METALS IN SOILS AND PLANTS IN VICINITY OF THE COAL MINING ENTERPRISE ON EXAMPLE OF MINE “VORKUTINSKAYA” OF THE CITY VORKUTA IN THE KOMI REPUBLIC

Abstract

In this paper, the results of the study of soils and plants in vicinity of mine “Vorkutinskaya” on content of heavy metals are given; the degree of pollution is characterized. Dependence of concentration of heavy metals in organs of Chamaenerion, Salix polaris and Betula nana on their content in soils has been determined. Study of soil samples in all selected areas has established the exceedance and background concentrations of Cu, Zn, Cd, Pb, Ni, Mn. The exceedance of Pb and Ni was established in organs of plants in technogenic soil and mound of coal rock. Concentrations of heavy metals in organs of Chamaenerion, Salix polaris and Betula nana at all areas is above background. Availability of investigated elements is explained by the physico-chemical properties of soil samplings: acidic reaction of environment, light granulometric composition, weak base saturation (Ca2+ и Mg2+ - the main antagonists of heavy metals) and by the fact that they have formed in conditions of permanent wetlands and low temperatures.
