Abstract

It is explained in the article that under conditions of intense globalization of the world economy and increasing international competition, a formation of new areas of economic growth based on knowledge and innovation is one of the most important resources of society and civilization. The characteristic of an economy based on knowledge, which is the direction of social and economic development, which are the important factors in the creation and implementation of intellectual capital, and economic processes have significant intellectual content. Necessity and prerequisites for the formation of the economy are considered in the Russian context. It is concluded that intellectual capital is an important factor in today’s economy; the features of the capital have been highlighted. Recommendations for quality and timely transition to an economy based on knowledge were given. The impact of the production, distribution and use of knowledge, development of intellectual capital that can provide the following effects are determined: economic benefit - the ability to reduce the cost of production organization and material support of the use of appropriate technologies, the social effect - more intensive and comprehensive development of society and environmental effects - prevention of the depletion of natural resources and foresight of disasters.
