Abstract

In this article, the limit is discussed as an aspectual sign with the cognitive point of view. The material for the study is the German language, where the limit-unlimit refers to the lexical-grammatical classes. The prototypical aspectual meanings of the limit-unlimit form cognitive correlations. We think that the sign of state (or stative) is ontologically included in the concept of limit-unlimit of the action. Any limit action owns the state of the variability. Mentally limit - as a change of state of an action - is associated with a certain dynamism. Respectively, unlimit is understood as adynamic, non-dynamic, even static - it is understood as constancy of the process or procedural state. The sign of the stative can indirectly affect the overall contextual process. The propositional sign of the stative is one of the basic components of the semantic concept(s) correlated with the text. Limit acts as a semantic component of the complex conceptual organization of the text. We consider that the preterite reinforces the value of the unlimit. The conceptual field points to a two-level mental and constitutes different linguistic markers: morphological, lexical, stylistic, and syntactical.
