Abstract

This work is devoted to studying of one of aspects of traditional culture - the mythological ideas about spirits keeping house space in tradition of Tatars of Trans-Kazan region. We regarded as Trans-Kazan the territory of the Republic of Tatarstan to the North from the Kama River and to the West from the Vyatka River and the Paranginsky district of the Republic of Mari El and the Malmyzhsky district of the Kirov region. In ethnogenesis of the core of the Kazan Tatars, the main ethno-forming role belonged to the Volga Bulgars who populated this territory no later than in the 10-11 centuries. However, formation of the Kazan Tatars happened in special geographical and historical environment when other tribes (Finno-Ugra, Nogais, Kypchak, Russian) stepped on historical arena. The main source of the study are materials collected by the author and staff of the Republican Center of Development of Traditional Culture during expeditions to Trans-Kazan areas at the beginning of the 21st century. As a result of the analysis of field materials, we can confidently assert that mythological ideas about spirits keeping house space are rather steady today. Comparison of the social status and forms of keeping spirits allowed us to draw preliminary conclusions on dependence of distribution of a certain complex of representations on the peculiarities of migration of ethnic groups of the Tatars.
