Abstract

The medical and social aspects of iron deficiency are studied in the. The influence of iron deficiency on pregnancy, childbirth, the postpartum period, the state of the fetus and newborn is comprehensively analyzed. It was found that the incidence of iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women is directly proportional to the level of socio-economic development of the region. Particular attention is paid to risk factors for the development of iron-deficiency anemia, the stage of the disease, the specificity of iron deficiency during gestation and the needs in the trace elements in pregnant women. The role of long-term consequences of the iron deficiency during pregnancy on offspring's quality of life in adulthood. The problems of treatment and preventive measures to prevent anemia in pregnant women. It is proved that iron deficiency when properly and early treated does not go to the manifest stage; it can significantly reduce the risk of obstetric and perinatal complications. Given the need for long-term treatment of iron deficiency, as well as a limited reserve of time to achieve clinical effect, a special importance should be given to the early detection of iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women.
